چکیده

This paper develops a biometric gait recognition system based on 3D video acquired by a Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor providing depth and intensity frames. A first step of the proposed gait analysis is the automatic extraction of the silhouette of the person via segmentation. The segmentation of the silhouette is performed on the depth frame which provide information which describes the distance from the camera of every pixel in the intensity frame. The range data is sensitive to noise thus we apply morphological filtering operations to enhance the segmented object and eliminate the background noise. The positions of the joint angles are estimated based on the splitting of the silhouette into several body segments, based on anatomical knowledge, and ellipse fitting. The resulting parameters from this analysis of the silhouette are used for feature extraction from each frame. The evolutions of these features in time are used to characterise the gait patterns of the test subjects. Finally, we do biometric performance evaluation for the whole system. To the best of our knowledge, this article is the first article that introduces biometric gait recognition based on ToF Sensor.

Flexible Piezoelectric Sensor-Based Gait Recognition

Most motion recognition research has required tight-fitting suits for precise sensing. However, tight-suit systems have difficulty adapting to real applications, because people normally wear loose clothes. In this paper, we propose a gait recognition system with flexible piezoelectric sensors in loose clothing. The gait recognition system does not directly sense lower-body angles. It does, howe...

A Shoe-Integrated Sensor System for Wireless Gait Analysis and Real-Time Therapeutic Feedback

Clinical gait analysis currently involves either an expensive analysis in a motion laboratory, using highly accurate, if cumbersome, kinematic systems, or a qualitative analysis with a physician or physical therapist making visual observations. There is a need for a low cost device that falls in between these two methods, and can provide quantitative and repeatable results. In addition, continu...

A Comparative Study of Wearable Sensors for Recognition and Analysis of Human Gait

Human gait is one of the biometric methods used for identifying humans unobtrusively and from a distance. Gait analysis using wearable sensors is a low-cost, handy and capable way of providing valuable information for many applications. Gait analysis using wearable sensors shows great prospects in biometrics as well as in medical applications. With the development of sensor technology and the a...

Individual Recognition from Gait Using Feature Value Method

We propose a novel framework to recognize individuals from gait, in order to improve HRI. We collected the motion data of the torso from 13 persons’ gait, using 2 IMU sensors. We developed Feature Value Method which is a PCA based classifier and we achieved an average individual recognition rate of 94% through cross-validation.
